Kim, I would say that Facebook has been much more useful for our department (there are many more people using it). The strength of Twitter is quick information sharing; whereas Facebook gives you the ability to form deeper connections. For more information on Parks & Rec and social media you can listen/view a presentation I gave in January, 2010 titled "Upgrade Your Department: Tools for 2010: http://recwebsites.com/general/28-upgrade-your-department-tools-for-2010-slides-a-audio." I will be speaking at the National Park and Recreation Congress in November on "Customer Service in a Digital Age." I will post the slides and audio on this blog following the presentation.

Great article about how park and Rec can utilize social mediums. I wouldn't have guessed that Twitter is more useful. I think it's harder to get a following on Twitter but once you have it, easier to update. Like the idea of embedding it to your website. You can also link you Twitter to your FB. I know this article is over a year old. Any more updates on how Park and Rec social media can succed? Kim Frye My2centsmarketing.com
